Il film è stato girato in un campo per rifugiati che si trova tra Erbil e Mosul, dove alloggiano i curdi e i siriani provenienti da Kobane.
On the day of the football European Championship finals 2016, a group of Kurdish children from a refugee camp in Northern Iraq tries to contact the FIFA headquarters in Zurich, to register their team for the football World Championship of 2018. “Champions” was filmed 2016 in a refugee camp between Erbil and Mosul, where Kurdish and Syrian refugees from Kobane are accommodated.
